Although the company has diversified into other market areas over the years, the Commercial and Industrial Department continues as a mainstay in the overall corporate operation.
Commercial projects vary in size and complexity with work in office buildings, schools, retail stores, banks, churches, health-care facilities, warehouses, and other commercial ventures. Often this work is performed as a subcontractor for one of the many general contractors in the area.
The industrial side of the department usually conducts its work as a prime contractor working directly with the owners of a facility. Much of this work is performed for long-term clients who have entrusted their facilities to J. F. Electric for years. Projects involve new construction as well as preventative maintenance, service repairs and a 24-hour emergency on-call service. For our industrial clients, J. F. Electric is a one-call solution for typical power and control systems as well as high voltage in-plant distribution systems.
Many of the commercial/industrial projects constructed by J. F. Electric are traditional plan and spec endeavors that are designed by engineers and architects employed by the owner. However, the fast-paced delivery requirement of many project schedules has moved the market steadily toward the concept of design/build management. In this process, specialty contractors team with the general contractor in both design and construction. J. F. Electric has professional engineers, electrical designers, and computer-aided drafting capabilities that allow us to integrate design and construction into a single product. As part of its commitment to the design/build industry, J. F. Electric is registered with the State of Illinois as a Professional Design Firm, a rare distinction for an electrical contractor.
